Easy Taxi, a global tried-and-tested taxi booking application company, kicked off its South-East Asia operations in Malaysia. Easy Taxi is present in 30 cities in 11 countries including Brazil, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela, and has more than 30,000 taxi drivers in its network.

With a network of 800 taxis secured over one month and 27,000 downloads of the app in Malaysia, adding to one million global downloads in the past seven months, Easy Taxi’s goal is to offer Malaysians who rely on taxis for their travel needs, a free and easy to download application that helps book a safe and reliable taxi ride, every time.

 

“We felt an easy to book taxi service that people and passengers could trust and depend on was missing in Malaysia.

 

“We say this because we understand the frustrations of trying to get metered taxis, waiting for long periods of time, and not knowing if we will arrive at our destination on time and safely,” said Easy Taxi Malaysia managing director Chan Heng Joon.

 

He said, “Easy Taxi is the answer to our taxi woes. Now, all passengers need to do is confirm their pick-up point and book a taxi with a press of a button. After the request is sent, passengers will receive a confirmation for a taxi driver with the driver’s name, photo, car model and registration number.

 

Passengers then have the option to follow the vehicle’s location in real time as it approaches. For safety reasons, quality checks are done before the drivers are allowed to join our Easy Taxi network.

The app is available on iOS, Android and Blackberry devices, and also tracks the nearest taxi in the area to ensure customers can enjoy a speedy ride to their destination.

 

The company operates on an open business model that gives its drivers the opportunity to earn more income by not having to work exclusively with Easy Taxi.

 

Easy Taxi’s revenue in Malaysia will primarily be generated from taxi drivers who pay a flat rate of just RM1 for each ride completed, from some 500,000 rides expected in its first year of operations.

Easy Taxi is backed by Rocket Internet, the German company known for building e-commerce businesses in emerging markets.

 

The total investment in Easy Taxi now stands at RM65mil, with a recent addition of RM45mil from Latin American Internet Holding (LAIH).

 

The money will be used to add new functions and features, enhance the company’s level of customer service and support its international expansion.
